Emel Filiz-Ozbay studies the ways in which behavioral biases may affect agents’ decisions.  She has used lab experiments to better understand the behavioral underpinnings of the decision to save, the behavior of auction participants, and, most recently, student decisions regarding the repayment of student loans.  Professor Filiz-Ozbay has been a member of the Maryland faculty since 2007. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1998 from Bogazici University in Turkey, a master’s degree in economics from Bogazici University in 2007 and a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University in 2007.
